There’s also a delicious range of pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes and wine bars, and a quirky 100-year-old Alhambra Cinema, offering first class cinema entertainment in traditional surroundings, or enjoy some live theatre or music at the Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater. Beautiful Derwentwater offers serene lake cruises, boat hire and paddle board activities. You’re spoilt for choice with walks up Cat Bells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horseshoe and Blencathra. Ashness Bridge and Surprise View a short drive away above the Borrowdale Valley should not be missed; nor should the unspoilt village of Watendlath. Head underground at Honister Slate Mines, enjoy mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest; explore the exquisite beauty of Borrowdale and the Scafell range. For day trips throughout the Lake District, Ullswater is a short drive away offering lake cruises, great walking and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall, Buttermere and Crummock Water offer sublime scenery.
