About South View

South View is a 5-star duplex apartment set in the tranquil private grounds of Oakfield House on the outskirts of Keswick in the Lake District National Park. Guests consistently rate it 4.8 out of 5 across 40+ reviews. This reverse-level apartment sleeps 4 and sits in beautifully maintained communal gardens with a terrace, lawned area and pond.

The location is hard to beat. Keswick town centre is minutes away with shops, restaurants, the Theatre by the Lake, a cinema, miniature golf and a climbing wall. Derwentwater is a short walk from town. Local buses pass the main road yet traffic noise is not audible from the apartment.

The accommodation is genuinely spacious. The lower ground floor holds a king-size bedroom with en-suite shower room and a twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom. The upper level has a kitchen/diner and a large sitting room with panoramic fell and lake views from the windows. Please note there is no hot tub.

Castlerigg Stone Circle (2 miles/5 mins), Derwentwater boat trips (1.5 miles/5 mins), Mirehouse and Gardens on Bassenthwaite Lake (7 miles/15 mins) and the Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick (1 mile/4 mins) are all close by.

Our second visit to South View. We will return. Spacious, comfortable apartment with fantastic views and grounds. Well equipped kitchen an air fryer would be nice and the lounge has the lovely views and new sofas and chairs. We did have some large spiders in the bedroom which might put others off. They do come in at this time of year.

We have stayed at Southview on a number of occasions and previously at The Conservatory next door. Oakfield House is a beautiful Victorian house in a lovely position with fantastic views of the Fells and Bassenthwaite Lake. It is easy to get too and its position just outside Keswick makes it very covenient for accessing the North, East and West parts of the Lake District. The flat is lovely, the rooms are huge with masses of space, it is well equipped and very clean.

This is a gorgeous, huge apartment with fantastic views from the lounge. The kitchen is well equipped with quality appliances, plenty of cutlery and crockery etc. The beds are comfortable and the ensuite bathrooms are a good size. I have booked again.

We had problems with the hot water. We reported it on the Monday but it was still not resolved when we left early on the Friday. We left due to the lack of hot water. We are due to be compensated but it did spoil our holiday.
We've stayed at South View previously and it can't be faulted for the great facilities, lovely setting and the fantastic views. It's a beautiful apartment. On this occasion though, there was an issue with the hot water. I called the number on the Sykes welcome email for assistance but there was no answer. I then called the number in the information pack and spoke to the caretaker. She was very helpful and ultimately had it repaired but the process took 4 days meaning we had compromised hot water ie not enough for more than half of our holiday. Also, on our previous visit the noise from adjoining apartments wasn't an issue which can't be said for this visit. In summary, we chose to return to South View as we'd really enjoyed it previously. We won't be returning again.

Loved staying here. So comfortable, away from the Keswick crowds. The apartment is spacious and clean with everything you could need supplied. Views amazing. Lots of walks from the door or a short car ride away. Local buses pass by the main road though you cannot hear any traffic the road is out of sight down the hill. We've already booked to stay again in 2025.
Superb very large apartment, beautifully appointed and equipped and with the most wonderful views. Without doubt the best self catering accommodation we have ever found in the Lakes. We will only stay here on future visits to this stunning part of our fabulous country.

The location is stunning and very peaceful, the gardens are beautiful. The property is very large, comfortable and with all the amenities needed for a vacation in The Lakes. It is well positioned with Keswick only a short drive away and there is good access to the coast and fell walks.

We loved our stay at South View, and particularly loved the glorious view. The rooms were spacious and elegant, and had lovely big windows 12 ft high on the upper floor, I am guessing so it was full of light. We enjoyed walking in the beautiful grounds. The kitchen was particularly wellequipped. Our bed was very comfortable excellent mattress. A couple of minor picky points We would have liked to have been able to drive the car round the house nearer to the back door for unloading and loading the car, instead of having to make a a lot of trips round the house. Parking in slot 2 afterwards would have been fine. Similarly, it would have been nice to have the dustbin with the others just outside the back door, and not to have to carry it all the way round the house. And a soap dish or little shelf for soapshampoo would have been the icing on the cake in the very nice shower.
A very spacious and well appointed apartment with some spectacular views from the lounge windows very well equipped throughout with high quality fixtures and fittings a delightful home to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The only drawback during our week there was the weather...it rained a lot!

As before, an excellent property. Quite the best weve stayed in in the Lake District. Exceptionally well appointed. Just to mention the large frying pan didnt seem to work on the induction hob.

If you are looking for a quiet retreat South View is that place. We had such a fantastic week stay there and the gardens are so beautiful. The house is very well equipped, in fact it is one of the best ones. And we have stayed in quite a few Sykes cottages. Would highly recommend this place 1010. Will definitely be coming back.

In almost all respects this is a perfect property. The accommodation is faultless and by and large everything we needed was provided. Just two minor points the waste bin was not lined with a bag and there was very little washing up liquid. We bought our own bin liners. I know this is not the fault of the owners but we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to segregate our refuse as we did at home.

This is a beautifully maintained, spacious and exceptionally well located apartment. The views are outstanding and the rooms spacious and comfortably furnished to a high standard. The gardens are lovely and peaceful outside of school holidays!. The kitchen is very well appointed and with every gadget a keen amateur cook could wish for. It is also well stocked with toys, games and books and tourist info. Highly recommended!

A truly wonderful property in a beautiful location, quiet and peaceful, yet just minutes from Keswick and convenient for getting around the Lake District. The apartment is extremely spacious, elegant, and tastefully furnished with the most wonderful views from its large living room, terrace and grounds. It offers period charm with all mod cons, especially in the kitchen which is comprehensively stocked. Everything was immaculately clean, providing a comfortable and welcoming base for a Lakeland holiday. We loved everything about it.

Fabulous property. Very well appointed kitchen. Comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms, warm throughout the property, fantastic large lounge with space to relax and enjoy the wonderful views. Plenty of books, games, puzzles and DVDs and a chess set. Nothing was wanting. Would highly recommend this property and hope to return again one day.

This was a return visit and we really like this apartment. However, as with last year, we felt that the cleaning left something to be desired. It seems as though the cleaner cleans the bits he she can see but does not go the extra mile. This year the sofa in the sitting room was covered in toast crumbs you wouldnt notice unless inspected properly as it is patterned. We also had to hoover the rug ourselves before being able to start a jigsaw, as the rug was dirty! Neither bedroom had been dusted properly, only a cursory dust along edges etc. In the bathrooms it seemed as though they had been mopped without first being swept, as behind the doors there were patches of wet scumdust. It is such a shame because its such a cosy place to stay with amazing views. These comments would not stop us returning again but it takes the edge off a lovely stay.
